Books and Crannies
Mark your calendars for May 15-16 and be sure not to miss this year's used book sale! Bigger and better
than ever, this year's sale has outgrown our gift shop: for one weekend, patrons will have access to parts
of the House usually off-limits to visitors, including our staff-only kitchen (for cookbooks, of course!)
and the basement "tunnel." Free tours will be offered throughout the sale weekend.
For serious collectors and bookhounds, a $5 entrance fee provides earlybird admittance from 8 - 10 am on
Saturday (May 15). At 10 am, the doors open up for regular sales and tours. The House will open again from
noon - 4 pm on Sunday (May 16) with an all-you-can-stuff bag sale. We'll also have a rummage corner this year,
with clearance items from the gift shop as well as a wide assortment of well-priced donated treasures.
The used book sale is one of the year's biggest fundraisers, providing capital for ongoing operations and
restoration projects. Once again, the sale will be held with support from ReVitalize St. Louis and the
Rehabbers Club. Volunteers from Step Up St. Louis will make sure you can find everything you're looking for.
If you come down on Saturday, be sure to check out Cherokee Street's annual History Fair, where tourgoers and
shoppers will mingle with DeMenil's volunteer "streetwalkers" (er, volunteers walking up and down the street in
period costume, don't get the wrong idea!) Tours, demonstrations, exhibits, and free live music will keep Cherokee
Street lively from 10 am until after 4 pm. |
