Candlelight Holiday Tour
Thursday, December 4th 2008
The Spirit of Christmas Past filled
the air at the Chatillon-DeMenil House during our Candlelight Tour
on Dec.4, 2008.
Holiday decorations were enjoyed in every room, as docents
dressed in clothing representing the eras during which the DeMenils
lived in the House explained customs of a French Christmas. Madame
Chouteau herself (a.k.a. Diann Daniels) came to wish everyone a
Joyeux Noel! Craig Schmid, Alderman from the 20th Ward, entertained
our guests by playing carols on his trumpet, and Don Heiligtag
beautifully tickled the ivories of the DeMenil piano.
Our dining room table was set with the thirteen desserts of the
Reveillon Feast, and everyone happily helped us devour the two
delicious Yule Logs (Bouche de Noel) that had been part of the
dessert display!
The grand finale of the evening was a fabulous concert in our
parlor by The Clayton Silver Strings. Everyone left the House that
night brimming with Christmas Cheer. |
